Custom 21-inch handmade Lokta paper lampshade with sacred print, designed for meditation rooms and eco-conscious interior

This new size came to life through a thoughtful customer request. Previously, we only offered a classic 13" format. However, we listened, adapted, and successfully expanded our offering. Now, customers can enjoy bigger, bolder, and still eco-conscious lighting options.

We craft every eco-friendly paper lampshade using Nepali Kagaj (Lokta paper), which originates from the Daphne plant in the Himalayas. Our artisans in Nepal create each shade by hand, while our Copenhagen design team ensures precision and modern finishes.

Why Choose a Larger Lokta Lampshade?

When you need to fill a bigger space, a stronger statement makes the difference. Our new 21-inch Lokta paper lampshade offers just that. Moreover, the expanded surface beautifully amplifies sacred Buddhist prints and the paper's handmade texture.

Whether you're decorating a spacious meditation room, a yoga studio, or a high-ceiling entryway, this custom-size handmade Lokta lampshade delivers warmth, purpose, and ethical style.

What Is Lokta Paper?

Lokta paper — also known as Nepali Kagaj — is a durable, natural fiber paper made from the bark of the Daphne plant. Artisans have used it for centuries because it is:

  • Tree-free and renewable, since the bark regrows naturally
  • Biodegradable and vegan, perfect for eco-conscious homes
  • Trusted by the Nepalese government for official documentation
  • Similar to paper used in the Japanese yen, thanks to its strength and longevity

From Bark to Shade: The Process

Our handmade Lokta lampshades undergo a beautiful, multi-step journey. Here’s how we transform raw bark into refined design:

  1. Local artisans collect bark from the Himalayan Daphne shrub without harming the plant
  2. They boil, hand-beat, and transform it into a soft, workable pulp
  3. The team sun-dries the pulp into strong Lokta sheets
  4. We handprint sacred motifs like Buddha or the Endless Knot onto each sheet
  5. Finally, we cut, assemble, and reinforce each lampshade with a lightweight metal frame
